Many profile pictures, product shots, and CMS media libraries allow around 200KB, enough headroom that dimensions often matter as much as encoding. Compress image size to 200KB online, or land less than 200KB when quality allows.
Pick 200KB when quality matters more than the smallest possible file. If a form demands 100KB or less, switch to that target page instead of guessing a quality slider on the main compressor.
Met target means the downloaded file is 200KB or smaller. Above target means the closest usable encode still exceeded 200KB after quality and dimension steps—download that closest file or try a tighter crop / the next larger limit page.
Never treat a soft ceiling as a guaranteed exact size. Portals that reject oversized uploads need the Met target badge before you submit.
At 200KB you can often keep higher resolution. Still crop unused background so quality stays on the subject that matters—dimensions vs encoding both move the needle.
