JPG (JPEG) is already a lossy format, so further compression usually means lowering quality. Start with a balanced setting for photos, then reduce only as much as you need for the web or sharing.
If a photo still feels large after compression, consider resizing dimensions first, then compressing again.
PNG is often used for graphics with sharp edges or transparency. Compression still helps, but PNGs with lots of detail may stay relatively large compared with JPG or WebP.
When transparency is not required, converting PNG to JPG or WebP can shrink files more aggressively than PNG-only compression.
